Diesel Mechanic Apprentice/Helper

The Role 

We are seeking a motivated Diesel Mechanic Apprentice to assist experienced diesel mechanics in the inspection, maintenance, and repair of diesel-powered vehicles and equipment. This entry-level position is ideal for someone looking to gain hands-on experience while developing technical skills in diesel mechanics.

What You’ll Be Doing

  • Assist senior diesel mechanics with diagnosing mechanical, electrical, and hydraulic issues
  • Perform basic maintenance tasks such as oil changes, filter replacements, lubrication, and tire checks
  • Help with the disassembly, cleaning, and reassembly of engines and components
  • Maintain a clean, organized, and safe work area
  • Use hand tools and power tools under supervision
  • Inspect vehicles and equipment for wear, damage, or safety concerns
  • Accurately follow work orders, instructions, and safety procedures
  • Learn to read manuals, schematics, and diagnostic reports
  • Support shop operations as needed

What You’ll Need

 

  • High school diploma or GED (preferred)
  • Enrollment in or completion of a diesel mechanic or automotive technology program is a plus
  • Basic mechanical knowledge and strong interest in diesel engines
  • Ability to follow instructions and work well in a team environment
  • Willingness to learn and take direction from experienced mechanics
  • Valid driver’s license (preferred)
  • Ability to lift heavy objects, stand for long periods, and work in a shop environment
